The Royal Tombs of the Macedonian Kings in Macedonia, Greece.
Vergina (Greek: Βεργίνα) is a small town in northern Greece, located in the prefecture of Imathia, Central Macedonia. The town became internationally famous in 1977, when the Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos unearthed the burial site of the kings of Macedon, including the tomb of Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. The finds established the site as the ancient Aigai (Greek: Αιγαί). Alexander the Great is considered one of the most successful commanders of all time after he managed to unite the Greek city-states and accomplish a Pan-Hellenic crusade against the mighty Persian empire. He managed to conquer the entirety of the Persian Empire and spread Greek language and Culture everywhere he passed.
