PHAROS ISLAND – Ceramics

Mali is the number of vessels of the Greek Archaic period known from Pharos. There was a miniature votive (?) Drinking glasses – skyphos . It is similar to a bowl nađenoj in Paros, and both were made in Corinth in the early 7th century BC.

Most of the Greek pottery found in the Pharos belongs to the late classical and Hellenistic period. Pottery and lamps show that the Pharos in this period (4th to 2nd centuries BC) a typical colony imported vases from various centers in Greece, southern and northern Italy.

But Pharos had its own ceramic production. The dairy fine vessel, then one dish and an amphora, Pithos, mortariji (for grinding grain and cooking), brick and decorative roof tiles, weights for looms. Produced even terra cotta, and the lamps were a common item in the homes and graves. Published stoneware found in various parts of the city show the uniform standards and the needs of its residents.
